We learn different knowledge and skills, which help make us successful in the future. Moreover, our experience in school has a formative effect on the way we think, feel, or act.

Education is like a railway, it builds tracks and make us travel forward step by step. Also, benefits society. America and China are committed to making their countries successful, so they both put a lot of money and effort into education for children. However the goal of education is different in America and China.

In the Chinese education system, they have nine-hour tests known as ‘gaokao’, the entrance exam for college. There are many parents in China consider the gruelling nine-hour test a sorting mechanism that will determine the trajectory of their children’s lives. (The guardian)
Even Chinese parents think education puts a lot of pressure on students compared to the American education system.

It was reported in The Guardian that one Chinese mother said “I’ve seen British curricular materials, and I’m actually kind of jealous,” “British teachers guide students to discover things on their own – they don’t just feed them the answers, like in China.”

Compare American education system to Chinese education system, the students in America have a chance to learn something more than just study for the tests. Students in America experience more creativity and feel more confident in school.

“When American high school students are discussing the latest models of airplanes, satellites and submarines, China’s smartest students are buried in homework and examination papers,” said a physics teacher who is the director of the Shanghai Education Commission’s basic education department.

In America, students learn by testing in class to understand how science works. But in China, students tend to memorise the equation instead of experimenting by themselves.

We should choose the right education track to make ourselves become successful in the future. Nevertheless, American education give students a bigger chance to improve themselves in different areas compare to Chinese education.
